Dear Parent, Student, and Educator,

This is a full week of school. Wednesday is an early out. Next week is ISASP week at GHS with no school Monday for students. Testing will be held Tuesday –Friday, April 16-19th.

News: Please see Mr. Bissen’s Weekly AD Email for updates to activities schedules/events.

As part of our Freshman Transition, there is an Electives Fair at GHS on Tuesday the 9th. 8th graders will be visiting the high school during the school day to learn about electives.

Hawkeye 10 All Academic and Character Winners: Last week, we celebrated five exceptional seniors at the Hawkeye 10 Awards Banquet. As part of the celebration, students selected their favorite educator who has made an impact in their life to attend with them.

ISASP Assembly Recognized Academic Achievement of Students:

Last week, GHS had an ISASP assembly to inform and motivate students to give their best effort! Students were asked to stand when their names were called for demonstrating a year's worth of growth in both math and reading combined. Students recognized will be receiving their rewards of a free activity ticket (grade 10) or prom ticket (grades 11/12).

We also recognized Students of the Week for “Achieving and Improving”

Students pictured below represent the top 5 students who had the highest growth in their grade level in a single area: math or reading. These students represent phenomenal achievement! It was wonderful to see students so proud of their academic accomplishments!

RAMS Time this week: Intervention and help to students will occur on Monday and Tuesday.  Wednesday is an early out & Thursday, students will receive back their old ISASP scores and set goals for growth. Friday, students will be practicing their locations for reporting for testing.

RAMS Time next week (During ISASP) –There will be no RAMS time in the schedule

RAMS time teacher assistance –Students may need to seek alternative times (before and after school for additional help these next two weeks, as RAMS time / intervention time for academic needs during the school day will not be as built into the school day as it typically would be.) However, as a support to students, teachers will be incorporating more one-on-one help, time for review, and revisiting concepts within the classroom periods to address student needs.

Please have conversations with your student about the importance of the testing.  For high school students specifically, this assessment drives much of their access to courses.  It specifically has an impact on the concurrent enrollment courses students can take through Iowa Western Community College.  Poor performance may keep students from taking elective courses they are interested in.  Please set the expectation in your household that this assessment is important and to do their best.  Thank you for your support! See items to note below:

  • Students must have their school issued Chromebooks and they must be charged.
  • State testing policy does not allow students to have access to electronics during the entire testing period.
    • This includes personal phones, tablets, smart watches, etc.  Students have been made aware of this policy and are aware that they will be required to place all items in their book bag at the front of the classroom.  Please make sure you are aware of this expectation.
  • Attendance for testing is very important.  All students will have to test, so testing during the regular scheduled time is ideal.
  • Students should have an independent reading book or something to work on quietly in the event they finish testing early.

Save the Date: ISASP Testing will be next week, April 16th-19th at GHS.

Seniors will not attend during the testing window but are expected to attend their regular classes per the bell schedule.  Students who take IWCC coursework on campus will need to coordinate with the main office regarding their schedule during ISASP week and their attendance.

See the bell schedule here.

Conditions for Learning Survey: Glenwood Schools will implement the Conditions for Learning Survey in April. We will be taking this later this month.

  • Iowa public schools use this survey to improve safety, student engagement, and the overall learning environment so that all students have optimum conditions for learning.
  • Student participation is highly encouraged but no student is required to complete it.  Students may skip any question or stop taking the survey during administration.
  • Parent consent for students to participate is passive, meaning all students will be encouraged to participate unless parents or guardians sign and return to the main office a Written Refusal form indicating that their child(ren) should not participate in the survey.
  • To review the survey ahead of time, see these surveys: English  | Spanish

Classes Next Year – Counselors are beginning the process of meeting with students to discuss course requests for next school year. Click here to view our 2024-2025 Coursebook and offerings.  More information will be shared in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to the HS Jazz Band for placing 4th at State!

Junior and Senior Parents/Guardians: PROM Information, See the GHS Prom Website. Please discuss with your son or daughter their plans for Prom Night.  For the last 2 years we have offered dinner at Bella Terra prior to Promenade.  This gives the kids a more local place to go for dinner so they don't feel they have to go outside of Glenwood and gives them more time to get ready and take pictures. We do offer the option for kids to come to Bella Terra at 4:15 and have hors d'oeuvres and mocktails outside and use the beautiful scenery to take pictures with their friends and dates.  Parents are welcome to come at 4:15 as well and take pictures outside.  We will not allow parents inside for pictures, as we will have a hard cut off for pictures and starting dinner.

Juniors and Seniors planning to attend after-prom and/or the dinner, please fill out this form by April 13th!  After-Prom and Dinner 2024 (google.com)

Parents can donate to our fundraising efforts by donating to our Lasagna / Chicken Alfredo dinner at the Eagles Club.  This fundraiser will take place on Friday April 12th and we are still looking for some volunteers to donate pans of lasagna. After Prom Committee: Lasagna Dinner at Eagles Club - After prom fundraiser (signupgenius.com)

Parent volunteers needed to help set up, check-in kids, work games, serve food & clean up.  It's a lot of fun and the kids really appreciate it.  After-Prom Volunteers Sign Up

Prizes are key to keeping kids at After-Prom.  If you'd like to donate a prize, check out the Amazon Wish List - can even ship directly to the after-prom committee.   The committee will be taking another inventory in the next week and then start ordering items/prizes to fill in the gaps, so please if you plan to donate/order please do so in the next week.  If you have bought items but not through Amazon please let Lori Johnson 402-203-9508 or Sarah Schau 402-680-0271 know so we can add them to our inventory. After-Prom Amazon Wish List.  Thank you! The After-Prom Committee.

Wishing you another great week at GHS! Go RAMS!!!
