Situational Awareness

Tuesday, November 29, 2022

Dear Parents,

We have a great opportunity for you this Thursday, December 1st, 2022, at 6:30 PM in the High School Auditorium. Paul Milone will be speaking to our 8th through 12th graders on this day during the day. We want to invite all parents and/or guardians, regardless of the age of their children, to this nighttime presentation. Even if your child is not quite the age that Paul speaks to, it is great information for you to have as parents while you journey with your children in graduating high school in the future. Please read below for more information regarding Paul's presentation. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Stanley at the Middle School or Mr. Albright at the High School. We hope you can attend.

Sincerely,

Paul Milone: Situational Awareness, Personal Safety; Decision-Making for Young Adults

Is your young adult ready to make the “big jump” after High School graduation?  Move out on their
own, live away from the safety of Mom and Dad?  Are you afraid for their safety?
There is no doubt that we currently live in a dangerous world, including us here in the Midwest.
Crime is on the rise.  Identity theft & physical theft can cause thousands of dollars to be lost.  The
Federal Trade Commission says that 9 million persons will be the victim of Identity Theft this year
alone. Violent crime is also higher than in recent years across the country. The use of “Date Rape”
drugs are on the rise.  “Roofies” such as Rohypnol, GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid) & Ketamine is
increasingly used on both women and men in the Midwest.  And lastly, accidental
overdose deaths from Fentanyl have increased exponentially, even in our local small communities.
According to the CDC, in 2020 alone, there were over 56,000 overdose deaths from Fentanyl in
America. That is 153 deaths per day.

Some precautions can be taken by your young adult to shield them from some of the pitfalls
of life, and they have been put into this presentation/Q&A session by Paul Milone.
Paul is a retired police officer who spent nineteen years of his career as an investigator, with fourteen
years on the Narcotics unit for his department. For all of those fourteen years, Paul worked
undercover and spent countless hours dealing firsthand with the criminal element who seek to hurt
and or otherwise exploit the unexpecting.  These investigations ranged from buying drugs from
hundreds of different individuals to working undercover on Dark Web cases with the FBI, Fraud
Cases with the Inspector General’s Office, Firearms cases with the ATF, and Identity Theft with the State
Department, in addition to performing up close undercover surveillance for every major Federal Law
Enforcement entity, State, County and Local Law Enforcement departments in the Omaha / Council
Bluffs area. Additionally, Paul spent sixteen years on his department's SWAT team, arresting those
who victimized others. Paul has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in
Human Services.

Paul has experienced more in this field than you, as honest law-abiding parents ever can, and is
ready to share those hard life lessons with you and your young adult.
Paul has been giving presentations to local High School seniors for the past fifteen years and has
tweaked this two-hour presentation to focus on young adults moving off on their own.
