Safe and Respectful Environment

Monday, February 27, 2023

Dear Parents,

We wanted to take a moment to remind you of our mission here at Glenwood Community School District, which is to prepare our students for responsible citizenship in our global society. To achieve this, we believe it is important that our schools provide a safe, secure, and respectful environment for all students and staff.

To that end, we have implemented two initiatives - PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) for PreK-8 and CKH (Capturing Kids Hearts) in our Middle and High School buildings. These initiatives prioritize the social and emotional well-being of our students and staff, foster a relationship-driven culture, and establish clear expectations for everyone to follow.

We were recently made aware by some community members that there is a need to improve school culture and safety by examining discrimination, inequality, and racism in all its forms among students. In response, we are taking action by seeking assistance from Green Hills Area Education Agency and other outside groups to collect data and develop actionable plans. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that all students feel safe and secure while attending our schools and that we uphold our mission to create a respectful and supportive school environment.

As we move forward, we plan to involve students and staff in developing action plans based on the data we collect. To obtain an accurate picture of the school experience, we will have students take the Conditions for Learning survey in April. This will help us develop plans for the remainder of this school year and into the next.

We appreciate your support and understanding as we work towards creating a more positive school environment for all students and staff.

Thanks,

Devin Embray, Superintendent
