Last week, the 4th-grade math teachers did a construction day in which the kids dressed up as construction workers. They were tasked with measuring objects in our classrooms and the hallway to determine the area using multiplication strategies. Thanks to Mrs. VanNess for writing a grant and being one of the winners of the Glenwood Community School Foundation Grant so we were able to make this day possible!

West Elementary students helped donate 2,073 items to our local Mills County Storehouse.
1st place: 5th grade with 713 cans of chicken or tuna.
2nd place: 3rd grade with 700 boxes of macaroni and cheese.
3rd Place: 4th grade with 660 boxes of hamburger, chicken and tuna helper.
Thank you to our Rambassadors and high school students for helping deliver these items. We are so proud and honored to help serve those in our community!

38 West Elementary students were able to attend Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer at The Rose Theater on Friday morning! These students were drawn from our PBIS buckets for being Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Kind. We had such a great time and the performance was spectacular!

Iowa Department of Education released the new state school performance ratings and federal designations
DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Education released the new Iowa School Performance Profiles, which includes new state school performance ratings and federal designations.
The website shows:
Schools that have been identified for additional support and improvement based on their performance to meet requirements of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Of the 468 total schools currently identified in need of targeted assistance and support, nearly half of all were identified because their students with disabilities performed below the level of the lowest 5 percent of all schools.
Updated scores and state school performance ratings for all public schools in Iowa based on how they performed on multiple measures, including student proficiency and growth, in the 2022-23 school year.
Ratings range from exceptional (highest performing), high performing, commendable, acceptable, needs improvement, and priority (lowest performing).
Shout out to Glenwood High School for demonstrating the largest growth in performance profile score within the district from 2022 to 2023, by increasing its overall rating 4.4%.!
Congrats to Glenwood Middle School for their consistency in maintaining their commendable status four consecutive years from 2019-2023 (no ratings in 2020).
Congrats to both Northeast and West for garnering high performing status for now four consecutive years!

Bond Issue- November 7th FAQ's Question 8: New Pool that was built - many people feel like it was pushed through (after several No votes) and is costing them money, especially with it being closed for many repairs. Can we have key bullet points on the cost breakdown for the pool, how it was paid for, etc. The Pool / along with the new sports complex and its costs were main factors for people not willing to sign the petition for the school improvements. Many don’t believe it was be tax neutral at all, as they were led to believe.
