A New Start for a New Year

January 2022 is starting off with many changes. Julie McMullen and Nancy Wright are now the interim principals for Northeast Elementary.  We are excited to work with the families of our students, and to support our staff and students for the remainder of this school year.

Another change in January includes the colder temperatures!

We do send the students outside to recess when the playground is clear enough, and the temperatures allow. Please send warm clothing with your child to school, including coat, hat, mittens/gloves, and appropriate shoes/boots.  Snow pants are also welcome.  Please mark all items with your child’s name.  We do have a few winter coats, hats, and gloves for children to borrow as needed.  **NOTE: Our “Lost and Found” is almost always full of hats, mittens, hoodies, and jackets that students have left at school.

January 4th Author Visit

One of our PBIS themes for Northeast Elementary is “being kind”.  We were fortunate to have an assembly with children’s author, Julia Cook.  Julia is an energetic and enthusiastic speaker, and read from several of her books that teach social skills.  Some of the skills covered include patience, being kind, and working together.

Jan. 12, 26 - 2 hour early dismissal
Jan. 14 - End of Semester 1
Jan. 17 - NO SCHOOL (MLK Day)
Jan. 19 - Assembly - Rachel’s Challenge

If your child is feeling ill, or has symptoms of Covid 19 we ask that you please keep your child home. Remember to call the office, or fill out the online absentee form before 8:30am if your child is sick, or being quarantined.

Drop-off/Pick-up Routines:

  • Drop-off in the morning:  Vine Street drop-off is intended to be a quick drop-off so cars can keep moving.  Please remember to pull-up to the front of the drop-off zone or as far as you can. This will allow more parents to be able to drop-off at the same time.
  • Pick-up after school: Vine Street pick-up goes more smoothly if you are displaying your car tag so that the teachers can identify the students being picked up.  If you do not have a car tag (shaped like a yellow school bus), please contact the office or stop by to get one.
  • Lower Lot after school: Parents are requested to get out of their vehicle and walk over to pick up their child.  Please do not stay in your car and “wave your child over” to your car.  This has been happening especially in cold weather with vehicles in the gravel lot.  It is extremely dangerous to indicate that your child should walk on their own due to all the moving vehicles in the area.  Our students are not easily seen by drivers.

Water bottles:
Water fountains will still be closed this year, however we do have water bottle fillers so please remember to send a water bottle with your student so they have access to water throughout the day. The water fountains are no longer available so it is important to send a water bottle with your child.

Change in Transportation:
Please remember if you need to change your child’s after school plans please call the office prior to 2pm. If the change is in regards to bussing you also need to call the transportation office as well at: 712-527-4116.

Food from home:
Please remember that we are a peanut safe school. This means that any food brought into the school for parties or snacks in the classroom must be peanut free.
