HOME SCHOOL INTERVENTIONISTThe Glenwood Community School District has a K-6 Home/School Interventionist. Her name is Katie Kelly, and she can be contacted by calling either elementary building. Parents may ask the Home/School Interventionist for help with locating services their child may need. These services may include but are not limited to the following: seeking a specialized physician, financial assistance, counseling, or a community service. Parents who have questions about their child's homework, organization, or responsibility may consult the interventionist, who will provide or locate the help the parents need. PSYCHOLOGIST The Glenwood Community Schools utilize a school psychologist part-time through the Area Education Agency. Ms. Kristi Kelly is the school psychologist assigned to West. She can be contacted at West Elementary 527-4886 or AEA 527-5261. Parents and teachers may request that a student be referred to the psychologist. Follow-up conferences are held with parents to assist in helping the child. GUIDANCE Individual Counseling: A student may be referred to the counselor by a parent or a teacher. A student may also request a visit with the counselor. Usually the counselor and the student talk on a “one to one” basis, trying to help the student with a particular concern. Small Groups: Students are put in small groups of about three to five children. They usually share the same concerns or problems and can benefit from interacting with each other. This could be a group of students whose parents are divorced or who may be having trouble in school related matters. Classroom Guidance: Topics that will benefit all the students are covered with the entire class. Areas for discussion can be ones that address the developmental needs of a certain group.
