Biography

I am currently the art instructor at Glenwood Middle School in Glenwood, IA. I am familiar with computers and comfortable working with many programs. In 2002 I received my Masters Degree in Middle Level Education from the University of Northern Iowa. My master’s thesis / project was to establish a computer based art curriculum and weigh the merits of such a program. At present I am pursuing my online instructor certificate from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

I designed and produced the Glenwood Middle School Art web page. I use this page to support my curriculum and bring interactive art experiences to the students. As a result of my master’s project, I have established a small computer lab as part of my art room to teach computer graphics. I also designed on line activities that support studio projects and other curricular benchmarks.

I have run the Glenwood Community School District’s summer school computer lab for the last four years. During this month long program, working with the summer school instructors, I coordinate web activities to bring a different type of learning experience to K-6 students. I also follow-up this program by supporting the district’s elementary teachers in using those same site with their students throughout the school year.

In 2001 I was awarded a fellowship with The National Gallery of Art.  I worked as a member of small team of three to design an interactive website exploring the art and life of M.C. Escher. This product was submitted to the gallery for consideration in becoming an activity on their NGA Kids site.

I serve in leadership roles in the district on both building and district leadership committees. These committees work on current challenges in education. We focus on trends in education to place our district on the cutting edge of quality education for our student body. I have also served on various select committees relating to professional development, staff evaluation, technology, and curriculum.
