Bicycles and mopeds must be parked in the bike rack provided near the outside cafeteria entrance. The school cannot assume any responsibility for loss, theft, or damage to a bike or moped, therefore, it is essential that the bike or moped is locked and chained to the bicycle rack. Under no circumstance, is any student to borrow or tamper with another student's bike or moped. Once a bicycle or moped is parked at the beginning of the school day, it may not be ridden until school is dismissed. MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE NOT TO RIDE THEIR BIKES OR MOPEDS AROUND THE RESIDENTIAL AREAS OR OTHER BUILDINGS OF THE GLENWOOD RESOURCE CENTER. All items sold at the Glenwood Middle School must first be approved by the principal. Sales affecting the school or a school organization, must first be scheduled and given a calendar date. The office telephone is a business phone and must not be tied up for reasons other than school business. It may be used by students in emergencies, if a student is ill, to notify parents of an after-school detention or teacher-sponsored meeting, to notify parents of an early dismissal due to weather, to notify parents of a change in a practice or game schedule, or by teacher/staff request. All other calls, including calls for items left at home, will be considered personal calls and will be limited. Students will not be dismissed from class to take personal calls. Messages will be taken by the office and sent to the student’s classroom or the student may return the call at the end of the period, during lunch, or during a study hall. A daily announcement will be read aloud over the intercom or by your classroom teacher sometime during fourth hour. The bulletin will also be posted on the bulletin board near the office and in the lunchroom every day before lunch. If you do not hear the announcement, be sure to read the posted announcement sometime before school is dismissed. If you would like to have an announcement placed in the bulletin, please bring it to the office before first period for approval. Please do not ask to have announcements made through the bulletin unless they are directly related to school business/activities. A lost and found box is located near the principal's office. Garments, books, P.E. or book bags, and large items will be kept in this box. Smaller articles such as wallets, purses, jewelry, glasses, watches, etc., will be kept in the principal's office for identification. If an article is lost, be sure to check these areas first and then a notice regarding the lost item can be put into the daily bulletin. Students turning in valuable articles may receive a reward. Please remember that the school will NOT be responsible for lost or stolen items. Public displays of affection are unacceptable behaviors in a school setting. They show poor judgment, make others uncomfortable, and demean the individuals involved. Students should demonstrate respect for themselves and others by conducting themselves in an appropriate manner at all times. Public displays of affection include, but are not limited to, holding hands, hugging and kissing. Students are not permitted to leave school after arriving in the morning until classes are dismissed unless permission is obtained from the principal's office. If a student is given permission to leave the building, he/she must sign out at the office before leaving. Once students come onto school property, which includes buses, they may not leave school property unless they have permission. All buildings and areas on the campus of the Glenwood Resource Center, other than the middle school facilities, will be "OFF LIMITS" to middle school students unless specifically authorized by staff and/or parents. Please notify the school immediately if there is a change in your address, telephone number, or person to contact in an emergency. This information is very important in case you become ill or are injured. The soft-drink vending machines are for use after school only unless special permission has been given by a teacher or the principal. Each student is assigned to a homeroom group, which will meet daily from 2:50 to 3:20. Purposes of the homeroom are to answer student questions, help students get to know each other, distribute written communication for parents and/or students, and for guidance activities. Homeroom is also a time that a student may go to a teacher for extra help or make up work. |
