If you become ill during the school day and cannot continue your classes, ask permission to go to the office. Do not visit the nurse's office without first checking in at the principal's office. The nurse is shared by other district schools and may not be in at the time you need to see her. The office staff will help you in that case. If you are ill or need to leave for an appointment, DO NOT LEAVE THE BUILDING until you first sign out in the office. The school nurse does not diagnose or give treatment other than basic first aid. The primary health service provided at Glenwood Middle School is health supervision and health education. If students become ill during the school day, the nurse will make the final determination if the student is capable of continuing in school. School health services have been complicated by legal, medical, and educational limitations, therefore, the understanding and cooperation of parents, teachers, and students is necessary if we are to provide the most effective program possible. TAKING MEDICATION IN SCHOOL The staff of the Glenwood Middle School cannot assume responsibility for administrating any medication to students except in case of an emergency. When a student must take medication which has been prescribed by a licensed physician during the hours the student is in school, it is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian to make the necessary arrangements.
IMMUNIZATIONS Iowa law requires all school age children to be immunized against certain diseases: polio, measles, rubella, and DPT, DT, or TD. The school nurse keeps records of each student's immunizations and will contact parents if additional immunizations are required. |
