Parents & Students

Students and parents are urged to contact Mrs. Hohneke, the middle school guidance counselor, whenever they have concerns or information that would help the school work with the student. Services provided by the counselor may include individual student counseling, group guidance, school testing program, test interpretation, educational planning, vocational and career planning, and scheduling.

CLASS SCHEDULING AND COURSE SELECTION

A great deal of communication is needed between the students, parents, and the school during the class selection process. Registration begins in the spring and continues with the scheduling process through the summer. There will be no schedule changes during the first week of school. Schedule changes thereafter will be made upon the request of a teacher or parents if there are acceptable alternatives available. The principal and/or counselor reserve the right to make the final decision on any schedule change.

GRADING SYSTEM

A uniform grading scale is in place for all teachers. Each teacher may also design rubrics or criteria to assess special projects or assignments. Parents and students are encouraged to discuss evaluation procedures with a specific teacher if they have a question or concern. A course syllabus is available upon request from each teacher.

The following is a district wide grading scale set in May of 2005.

REPORT CARDS AND MID-QUARTER PROGRESS REPORTS

Report cards are issued at the end of each quarter or nine weeks session. Progress will be marked with letter grades and selected comments. Mid-quarter progress reports will also be sent home each quarter.

HONOR ROLL

Students who earn and maintain a 3.0 grade average are placed on a school honor roll. This list will be compiled on a quarterly basis. Any student with a D, F, or Incomplete grade for the quarter will not be eligible for the honor roll.

FAILING CLASSES

Students who fail an excessive number of courses may be required to take these courses over, make them up during summer school, or in some cases, these students may be required to repeat the entire grade.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PROMOTION POLICY

Each student at the Glenwood Middle School will be promoted to the next grade unless he/she fails a total of three semesters of his/her core courses during the current year. The core subjects are language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Summer school will be required in these cases in order for the student to be promoted to the next grade level. The administration reserves the right to adjust this in the best interest of the student.

TRANSFER/WITHDRAWAL OR CHANGE OF ADDRESS

If you move or change telephone numbers within our school district, please notify the office as soon as possible. If you move outside the district, please notify the office in advance. This will facilitate your move and the school and the student will handle checkout procedures appropriately.
