Central School consists of a specialized classroom for students with severe physical and cognitive disabilities and special medical needs. The students have significant difficulties with communication and rely on facial expressions and voice output communication devices that can be activated with any slight movement of the student. Other assistive devices are also used to increase their ability to interact with their environment. The curriculum and instruction are designed to meet the needs of individual students and their specific learning goals. These are developed at a team staffing called an I.E.P. (Individual Educational Plan). These I.E.P. goals improve the student's ability to communicate, make choices and become more independent by using adaptations and assistive technology within the curriculum. Age appropriate hands-on activities support these goals. Students also go on a variety of field trips that enhance their educational experiences.
