What is a benchmark in the Glenwood Community School District?

Established during School Improvement Team meetings (2002-2003)

Benchmarks are the essential learning for each grade level and course. (they are included in the syllabus)

Benchmarks are statements of what students should know and be able to do when they leave your class.

bullet

Instructional time must be prioritized using the benchmarks.

bullet

Assessments must be linked to the benchmarks.

bullet

Learning should be monitored and teaching adjusted given student progress on those benchmarks. (item analysis is one tool for this)

bullet

Parents should know how their children are progressing on the benchmarks.
