 WELCOME TO GLENWOOD COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

FOOD SERVICE PROGRAM

Glenwood Community School District provides a computerized system that allows participants to deposit money into a Food Service account from which they may draw to purchase lunch, breakfast, or Ala Carte items using a P.I.N. number.  The Food Service Program will issue each student, teacher, associate, administrator, and staff person a P.I.N. number to use when purchasing meals or ala carte items.  Students and staff may pick up your P.I.N. number and deposit money into their account at registration, before school begins, or before meal service time.

Food Service must collect money for accounts in the early morning at all school buildings.  They are unable to accept money during lunch service time as they are required to serve meals within a short time frame and in a different section of our computer program.  The Food Service Program expect meals to be paid for in advance, but they do allow emergency charging, not to go past -$10.00.   Reminder slips will be printed and sent home for students Pre-K thru 6th grade.  Reminder slips are printed before lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will be sent home with each child on these days.  Reminders are printed starting at positive $10.00 thru negative $10.00.  Each family should receive approximately 10 reminder notes before the negative $10.00 is reached.  Please call your child’s teacher if you cannot find the reminder note with your child.  Ala Carte items may be purchased with cash or from accounts.  Parents may block Ala Carte purchases and breakfasts from the student’s account.  Ala Carte items may not be charged; only meals can be charged.

The Food Service Department can take one check for all family members’ meal accounts, but we need information about who the money is for, what building they are in, and how much to deposit in each family member’s account.  Please be sure we have all the information needed to transfer money to other family members’ accounts.

If you have questions about your food service account, please speak to the food service clerk.  They will be happy to give you or a parent a printout of your account transactions.  If you find mistakes, please talk to the food service clerk.

Lunch

SENIOR HIGH is offered three lunch line choices.

1.    The “Type A” lunch line begins at the west door.  We generally offer two entrée choices in our Type A lunch line.  Fruits, fruit juices, vegetables, etc. are serve-yourself on tables in the main cafeteria area and are included with the Type A meal.  You may add on salad bar at a cost of $.50.

2.   The salad bar line begins at the east door in the cafeteria.  If you choose from 3 food categories, this is also served and charged as a Type A meal choice.  The self-serve fruits and vegetables are also included in this meal choice.  If less than 3 food categories are taken, we will charge Ala Carte pricing, which is higher, and we encourage everyone to choose from at least 3 food categories.  Milk is included in this meal and counts as a food category.

3.   The Ala Carte serving area is located at the west side of the cafeteria room.  Pricing is set for individual items.  Look for signs showing pricing or ask the Ala Carte clerk for pricing.  If you have a special request for us to bring in a different item than offered, please speak to the clerk.

MIDDLE SCHOOL lunch includes your choice of either the main lunch line or the salad bar line.  Students may serve themselves to all the fruits and vegetables they will eat in the main lunch line and at the salad bar.  Second entrees (included in the meal for the day) may be purchased as you enter the lunch line.  This would be items like 2nd sandwich, slice of pizza, french fries, cookies, cakes, etc.  Students may purchase Ala Carte items after all students have been seated and have had time to eat their meal.  Please be sure to bring money for accounts to the cafeteria in the mornings from 7:30 A.M. to 8:15 A.M.

WEST ELEMENTARY may choose main line lunch or salad bar when their teacher takes attendance in the mornings.  Students may ask for a second serving of fruits and vegetables or they may turn down a fruit or vegetable as they pick up their food tray.  Students are to bring money for their meal account to the ticket window on the south end of the 5th grade hallway.  Students may get an extra milk with their lunch or to go with a cold lunch when they go thru the lunch line.  They will enter their P.I.N. number once for their meal and again for an extra milk.  If they are getting a milk to go with a cold lunch, they will enter their P.I.N. number after the clerk has entered their milk as an Ala Carte item.  The amount will be deducted from the student’s meal account.  Parents are encouraged to come eat lunch with their students and may deduct the cost of their meal from their student’s meal account, or please have exact change ($2.05).

NORTHEAST ELEMENTARY students will leave their lunch money in a special place the teacher in each room assigns for lunch money.  Please place lunch money inside an envelope that contains your child’s name, teacher’s name, and write a note if the money is to be split out for siblings at other buildings.  We encourage parents to come eat lunch with their child.  We need to know by 9:30 AM if you are eating a school lunch.  Parents may deduct the cost of their meal from their child’s account, or please bring exact change for the cost of the meal ($2.05).

Breakfast

Breakfast includes:

*  2 bread items  (1 large donut, 2 poptarts, 1 large muffin, 1 - 3 oz. Bagel, 1 cereal bowl and a graham cracker equals two bread items - ask if you have a question.)

*  100% Fruit Juice (4 oz. carton only)

*   Milk (8 oz. carton only)

A student may take 2 milks or 2 juices or one of each included in their breakfast.  A breakfast must contain 3 components to be sold or counted as a free or reduced priced meal.  In other words, a student must take a milk or juice with a donut, bagel, poptart, etc., to claim it as a free or reduced price meal and not Ala Carte sales.

Students may not charge breakfast or Ala Carte items.
